As pointed out in WP1 of Annex I, this report concerns the activities undertaken in January 2008. During this period, with the help of the chief administrative secretary of the Department of “Processi Formativi” (mr. Giovanni Musumarra), we aimed to create a solid administrative and organizational structure in order for MIRRORS to take its first steps and to create a solid foundation for its future prospects. Besides, we corrected some shortcomings in the proposal.
As regards administration, with the help of mr. Musumarra, the co-ordinator used the existing financial structure of the Department to fix appropriate items of expenditure of the European Community funding. Furthermore, the guidelines and rules concerning administrative and financial issues pointed out by the EU and appearing in Annex II as well as the instructions found in the Guide to Financial Issues relating to FP7 Indirect Actions have been fully studied in order to balance any structural discrepancies between EU procedures and those of the University of Catania (UC). several meetings with the UC administrative staff supervised by the Head of the UC Administrative Department took place. The aim of these meetings was to give information about the issues that had been discussed with the Research Directorate-General of the European Commission who supervises some of the activities of the project.
By the end of December, once the contract with the Commission was signed, we were able to make a contract with Mr. Marco Stissi who is responsible for the creation of an autonomous website for MIRRORS (http://www.mirrors-project.it) that contains general information, papers and events concerning the project. the website has been in operation since the end of january. Prior to that, the first presentation of the project (proposal, aims, research staff etc.) could be found on the personal website of the Coordinator. International scholars taking part in the project have also been invited to create links to the MIRRORS website on their respective home universities.
Special care was taken to organize the first of the MIRRORS start-up meetings which was partially open to the general public. it took place at the end of May 2008 and many of the international scholars in the project participated.
the MIRRORS research team have been meeting every two weeks in order to coordinate the research and to share suggestions about research content, organizational issues and future prospects. Furthermore, a cooperative system of joint writing (see the website ‘http:// zoho.com/’, which allows the user(s) to work with an online Word processor) has been activated in order to boost an integration of research efforts and to ascertain research results of each individual researcher on a daily basis.
Finally, during one of the meetings of the “Società Filosofica Italiana (SFI)” the coordinator presented and discussed MIRRORS with its members. the possibility of a joint effort in the dissemination of results in italian high schools and universities was raised. in the next few months, a MoU with SFI concerning MIRRORS will be edited.
